Iron Man (well...concrete)

Wednesday, July 18

Today I tackled a masculine or gender-neutral bedroom. It shares some of the colours of the bedroom from last week, but I think is executed in a way that is much less feminine. You'll have to tell me if you agree!

A paint colour like Tree Moss by Benjamin Moore (pictured below) would be a good backdrop to this room, although anything in the greige (grey + beige) colour family would work.
For this room, my starting point was the Covington Katana Ikat. Have you guessed that I'm a fan of Ikat??? I really liked the dark moody masculine colours of this fabric and I think it would make perfect drapes. The grey stripe fabric (Premier Prints Jiri Nova) would be used to reupholster the Everett chair by West Elm, which I think is such a nice tailored shape for a bedroom. The remaining fabrics in the top right corner would be used for a few pillows.

For a bed, I chose the Linea bed by Crate & Barrel, which has nice clean lines. Although I'm normally not a fan of matching furniture sets because I think they lack personality, the matching Linea dresser is gorgeous. As far as I'm concerned, as long as the other bedside table is different, using parts of a matching set can still allow for some individuality to show through. So for the other side of the bed, I chose an iron-coloured cement side table from CB2, which has such a cool rough appearance. I would top both bedside tables/dressers with the sleek Westbury Accent lamp to tie them together.

Because there are already so many patterns in this room, I thought that a basic sisal rug and simple white sheets with charcoal trim would add some necessary calmness. A gorgeous narrow ceramic tray with a geometric pattern would be a great place to rest a watch or cufflinks at the end of the day. I also added in a galvanized steel tray that I found on Etsy, which could sit on top of the dresser to corral any odds and ends.

Finally, I would finish the room off with some really fun art from my new favourite website for art - Society6. So many amazing and affordable prints. I think my favourite in this room is the Psychopath print, which cracks me up.

Let me know what you think! I'll have another post ready for tomorrow on a masculine/gender-neutral dining room.
